Quasi niente

Giuseppe Lo Cascio, Lorenzo Montinaro
January 11 - February 10, 2024

Contemporary Cluster is glad to present on Thursday, January 11, Quasi Niente, a two-person exhibition by Giuseppe Lo Cascio and Lorenzo Montinaro accompanied by a critical text by Lorenzo Madaro. The exhibition aims to explore the research of the respective artists, whose urgency is driven by themes that address multiple contexts including the dimensions of Memory and Time, through their different, yet often coinciding, modes of expression. Occupied rooms focus on the practice of one and the other by providing grafts from both sides at an alternating pace and accomplishing a full intersection in the middle - mimicking times when dialectics are shared.

➤ Lorenzo Montinaro

The practice of Giuseppe Lo Cascio (Palermo, 1997) narrates and reveals power dynamics through the use of archives and social memory. In Lo Cascio's defunctionalization of objects, empty folders, for example, become metaphors for the unspoken. Challenging perceptions of containment, his work invites contemplation of the selective narratives of social constructs. In a ritual dance with and against time, Lorenzo Montinaro (Taranto, 1997) erases the inscriptions of tombstones recovered by stonemasons near cemeteries, rescuing forgotten scenarios from oblivion and engaging in paradoxical preservations. In the convergence of Montinaro's visible removals and Lo Cascio's conceptual voids, a common thematic resonance emerges. Both artists confront the impermanence of memory where Absence becomes a fundamental hinge, inviting viewers to confront the transitory nature of existence.
