Inspired by a Matchbox Sketch, a Danish Seating Classic

Close your eyes, and scenes of a leisurely moment in an outdoor hunting cabin quietly emerge. Your body fully surrenders to the supple leather at the back, hands resting behind your head, legs relaxed and crossed—perfect for savoring the day’s accomplishments.

This highly coveted chair was inspired by a spontaneous sketch Børge Mogensen drew on a matchbox. The idea later became a reality at the 1950 Copenhagen Autumn Exhibition of the Danish Furniture Guild, offering hunters—those focused on pursuing their goals—a place to pause and rest. When seated, the chair tilts upward at seventeen degrees, comfortably conforming to the body while the front edge sits just 30 cm above the floor, allowing effortless standing and a graceful return to activity.

Crafted entirely with solid wood mortise-and-tenon joinery, the chair is visually light yet structurally robust. Its saddle leather seat and backrest impart a casual, relaxed character. Over time, the leather softens further, and the adjustable straps allow for finely tuned personal comfort. Immersed in the tranquil moments the Hunting Chair provides, one can almost converse with the designer himself, imagining him passionately capturing inspiration in sketches.
