German Excellence in Bathroom Design | Personalizing the Sanctuary Within

The Smartest Investment in Interior Design Today

Bathrooms function as a sanctuary for body and mind after a busy day. Internationally, bathrooms are regarded as essential interior spaces, and homeowners integrate refined design concepts into both master and guest bathrooms to address distinct functional priorities. Many brands now offer collections that marry sleek aesthetics with robust performance. These solutions not only transcend conventional bathroom typologies and harmonize with the overall interior scheme but—by reducing the scope of finishing works—also coordinate labour costs across trades. For homeowners seeking enhanced living efficiency without compromising on aesthetics, furniture-style bathrooms represent the most worthwhile investment.

This furniture-forward approach also unlocks spatial flexibility. Instead of relying solely on luxurious marble countertops, vanities are now defined by proportion, customization, and tactile diversity. On the functional side, intuitive layouts are enhanced by smart technologies and elevated by sophisticated design. The result is a contemporary bathing experience that is both practical and deeply restorative—transforming the bathroom into a true place of retreat.

Back in the 1970s, German bathroom specialist KEUCO partnered with world-renowned industrial designer Luigi Colani, alongside fellow German brands Villeroy & Boch and Grohe, to develop what is widely considered the world’s first fully integrated bathroom—the visionary Colani Bathroom. This groundbreaking project redefined the relationship between washroom elements, uniting them in a single, cohesive space that prioritized design harmony and user experience. At a time when toilets and baths were often located in separate areas, the Colani Bathroom stood as a futuristic concept—and remains a design milestone. Colani’s work continues to inspire a new generation of designers, including Philippe Starck, Ross Lovegrove, Reiner Moll, and Dominik Tesseraux.

An Expression of German Craftsmanship and Minimalist Beauty

A longtime advocate of tone-on-tone design principles, German designer Dominik Tesseraux (Tesseraux + Partner) has dedicated his career to reimagining the modern bathroom. In his latest collaboration with KEUCO, the two introduce the Edition 11 Art collection—a seamless integration of washbasins and bathroom furniture that narrates a poetic vision of the bathroom of tomorrow.

Tesseraux, who brings a background in industrial design, is also the creative force behind the award-winning IXMO series, first launched in 2015. Known for its minimalist yet precise modularity, IXMO has earned multiple international accolades including the iF Design Award, Red Dot Design Award, German Design Award, German Innovation Award, and the Stylepark Selected Award at ISH 2019. The collection showcases how simplicity in form can achieve complexity in function—an ethos that continues to define KEUCO’s design philosophy.

His collaboration with KEUCO on the IXMO series has earned widespread acclaim and multiple international design awards for its refined integration of innovation and craftsmanship.
With Edition 11 Art, KEUCO expands on that legacy. The series introduces ultra-slim 4mm washbasins crafted from enamelled titanium steel, precisely integrated with the vanity base. A palette developed with principles of color psychology adds to the collection’s sensory appeal. Available in five muted tones—Silk White, Desert Khaki, Manhattan Grey, Satin Blue, and Smoked Grey—the colorways foster a calming atmosphere that evokes both relaxation and quiet joy. It is a refined expression of how materials, finish, and proportion can work together to create an emotional landscape within the bathroom.

Tesseraux’s approach in Edition 11 Art builds upon the foundational values introduced with IXMO: "LESS CAN DO MORE." The IXMO shower system remains celebrated for its highly modular design—achieving maximum utility with minimal components and pure, geometric forms. This year, KEUCO has reintroduced IXMO in a curated selection of new color finishes tailored to contemporary interiors, making it the ideal solution for today's furniture-integrated bathroom environments.
