Returning to the Essence of Living, Expanding the Boundaries of the Future Kitchen
The character of a space has always responded to the way people live. And perhaps the value of design does not lie in immediate spectacle or the disruption of convention, but rather in whether, upon entering a space, one can imagine a life unfolding within it. That might take the form of a gentler, more embracing kitchen, where curved cabinetry and open shelving extend naturally into the living room and bathroom, shaping an atmosphere that feels fluid and connected. Or perhaps it is a durable, weather-resistant modular system designed for outdoor use — one that allows cooking to move beyond the confines of an interior corner and coexist more openly with nature.

At the 2026 Milan Design Week, renowned Italian kitchen brand Scavolini unveiled a series of new collections that seek to expand the perceived boundaries of the kitchen. The Flair collection, with its soft porcelain-toned matte lacquer paired with the natural warmth of oak grain, evokes a calm and welcoming atmosphere. Extensive use of curved surfaces further softens the traditionally rigid character of the kitchen, allowing the boundaries between domestic spaces to dissolve more naturally. Through subtle tactile contrasts between materials and the flexible arrangement of modular elements, the kitchen system evolves beyond a purely functional role, becoming a sophisticated design language capable of defining the architectural character of a space.

Also presented during the exhibition, the Poetica collection continues this poetic rhythm through solid ash wood framing that balances beauty and functionality with quiet elegance. Warm in tone yet reduced to an essential formal expression, it allows everyday materials to become a medium through which perception is softened and modern minimalism is reinterpreted. Moving into the Stilo-Living workspace and the Walk-in Fluida dressing area, the transition between adjacent living zones unfolds with natural fluidity, bringing distinct functions into a shared spatial narrative while maintaining a gentle continuity between them. In this way, the kitchen becomes the core from which a more integrated living experience extends outward — allowing the home to retain personal expression within a cohesive spatial language.

Beyond this, Formalia Outdoor proposes an entirely new way of living. Featuring stainless steel cabinetry integrated with a grill and sink, the system extends the functionality of the kitchen into outdoor environments. It also offers an alternative perspective on the long-standing conditions of Taiwanese kitchens — often compact, humid, or closely tied to cooking fumes within open-plan layouts. Built upon the durability of stainless steel and paired with aluminum lacquer finishes and wood-textured surfaces, the collection demonstrates an adaptability that accommodates a variety of aesthetic styles. It leaves one wondering how much further the future of living spaces might evolve. Perhaps every inquiry into the essence of daily life can bring new responses in form and aesthetics.
