Rendered entirely in black, the lounge chair presents a sculptural presence: a solid wood base inspired by the archetype of traditional African seating is paired with a sequence of gently undulating cushions, forming an invitation that is almost perceptible before the body ever comes to rest—an invitation to inhabit the space between repose and contemplation. For designer Jean-Marie Massaud, form is never an exercise in style, but the distilled expression of an underlying idea. Crafted from black elm, Attimo moves away from the enveloping language of oversized backs and heavy armrests. Instead, its clarity of structure gives rise to a silhouette that feels open, fluid and remarkably light. In profile, the slender curve extends seamlessly from the backrest to the leg support, gently lifting the body into a naturally reclined position. Resting on carbon-black lacquered metal legs, its carefully balanced proportions allow the chair to exist as both furniture and sculpture—equally compelling as an object to behold and a place to inhabit.
Along the sweeping structure, segmented cushions combine differentiated-density polyurethane foam with fibre padding to provide continuous support that adapts intuitively to the body's shifting postures. Two removable upholstery options offer distinct tactile expressions. The fabric version reveals the quiet warmth of woven fibres and knitted textures, while the premium aniline leather preserves its untreated surface, allowing its natural pores and grain to remain visible beneath an exceptionally supple touch. Through an enduring exploration of diverse forms, Poliform has continually returned to the essential purpose of furniture design, allowing each piece to become a vessel for everyday memory. Attimo, in turn, transcends the value of craftsmanship alone.
