In the heart of Tainan’s historic charm, a quiet neighborhood reveals a destination where tradition meets modernity. Round² Space – CLASSIC invites visitors to discover a new perspective on eyewear. Far more than a traditional optical store, this curated gallery celebrates timeless design, quality craftsmanship, and a deep appreciation for cultural heritage. Following the success of Round² Space – PURE in 2023, the brand’s second location, Round² Space – CLASSIC, debuts in 2025 as a sanctuary for vintage eyewear enthusiasts and lovers of iconic brands. Designed by the acclaimed Homework Design team, this new chapter embodies the spirit of enduring craftsmanship and contemporary elegance. With an exclusive collection featuring brands like Oliver Goldsmith, a British eyewear icon, and Rigards, a pioneer in avant-garde craftsmanship, the space redefines what it means to explore eyewear. Opening on January 11, 2025, the store launches with the theme “Urban Green Living”, weaving together the pleasures of coffee culture and outdoor leisure. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in this curated experience, where the past and present converge in every frame and detail.

A Vision of Style and Legacy

 

 

Round² Space was born from a heartfelt moment—a sketch of glasses drawn by the founder River’s 4-year-old daughter. This personal inspiration shaped the brand’s identity, with the name Round² symbolizing both the dual circles of eyewear and the founder’s childhood nickname. The brand’s logo retains the simplicity and sincerity of that original drawing, reflecting a commitment to elevating eyewear into a cultural and artistic medium.

At Round² Space – CLASSIC, the focus on “classic” extends beyond style to embody a philosophy of enduring value. Drawing inspiration from Japan’s revered eyewear-making traditions, the space celebrates heritage through a carefully curated collection of timeless and vintage designs. The interior, characterized by warm wood tones and understated elegance, provides the perfect setting for exploring these storied creations. Cinematic Design Meets Timeless Craftsmanship

 
 
To bring this vision to life, Round² Space collaborated with Homework Design, led by the celebrated designer Marko. Known for their refined aesthetic, the team transformed a former dental clinic into a space inspired by vintage European films and 1980s luxury hotels. Upon entering, guests are greeted by a grand reception counter, reminiscent of a hotel lobby. The consultation area evokes the charm of vintage train compartments, featuring plush velvet seats and marble-inlaid tables. The warm teak palette is enhanced by Japanese leather folding chairs from Black Design and complemented by the playful artworks of local artist Zhou Yi, which add a relaxed yet sophisticated touch. A stone-patterned spiral staircase serves as a striking visual focal point, guiding visitors to the second-floor gallery. This upper level offers a versatile setting for exhibitions and events, continuing the theme of blending heritage with contemporary living.

Oliver Goldsmith
Established in 1926, this iconic British brand is the only eyewear maker featured in London’s Victoria & Albert Museum. Famously worn by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Oliver Goldsmith continues to epitomize timeless elegance.
 
 
Garrett Leight
With a philosophy that eyewear should be as essential and versatile as a classic white tee, Garrett Leight designs effortlessly stylish frames that integrate seamlessly into everyday life. The brand is a favorite of Joaquin Phoenix, who wore it to the Academy Awards.
 
 
Rigards
A leader in avant-garde eyewear design, Rigards pushes the boundaries with innovative materials like stone, copper, and pure silver. Its bold, handcrafted pieces have become staples on fashion runways worldwide.
 

 

 

 

 

Beyond eyewear, the space offers an eclectic mix of vintage furniture and rare artifacts. Highlights include a century-old Leica triple-lens microscope and handcrafted frames by legendary Japanese artisans Taihachiro Kinsei and Mitsukazu Yamada. The Treasure Cabinet, a bespoke feature designed by Homework Design, houses a rotating collection of vintage eyewear inspired by antique library catalog drawers. The second floor of Round² Space – CLASSIC extends its mission with a versatile event space, featuring cream-colored walls, wood accents, and a minimalist bar. This area serves as a platform for curated exhibitions and collaborations, blending design and lifestyle seamlessly. The grand opening, themed “Urban Green Living”, runs through February 9, 2025. Collaborations with brands like Black Design, OREA, and Hakkei create a unique synergy of indoor and outdoor elements. Guests can enjoy locally roasted coffee from St.1 Cafe’ while exploring exclusive merchandise, celebrating the intersection of art, leisure, and design.
