Foothill Residence

"Living" is centered around people, allowing the senses to open up in a stress-relieving atmosphere, while "residence" is about indulging the body and mind in rest, recharging life energy. "Foothill Residence" connects people and space through design, letting the greenery of the environment flow into the home. Complemented by the changing light and shadows of the four seasons, it creates a richly elegant and enjoyable living experience.

The original three-room layout has been transformed into two rooms, not only giving more space to the frequently used public areas but also increasing the window area. Spending time in the public areas becomes the most relaxing and pleasant experience, whether lounging lazily on the sofa enjoying the audiovisual effects, savoring light meals and coffee at the island while reading, or letting your thoughts drift through the large windows to the lush greenery outside. The opposite long rainbow glass doors reflect the mottled shadows from the windows, subtly blurring the occasional clatter from the kitchen.

The ceiling division, along with the arrangement of the island and furniture, subtly suggests functional zones within the light gray-toned public area. The seamless panDOMO flooring throughout the space harmonizes its continuity. The bi-directional sofa offers perspectives that highlight the dialogue within the spatial design, while the TV wall breaks away from the conventional use of rigid materials. Light filtering through fabric curtains emits a detailed glow, intersecting with the natural light quietly passing through fabric blinds, creating a flowing timeline in the pure gray tones, delicately engraving intricate patterns. Facing this is a set of three cloud-textured slate sliding doors that conceal large storage spaces, as if transforming the outside treescape into an ink wash landscape that lingers on the door panels.

The public and private areas are connected by a short corridor, with walls and sliding doors clad in wrought iron, featuring an ink-black texture from the forging process. The addition of a wall lamp enhances the sense of ceremony as one enters the private area. The bi-directional door design of the walk-in closet ensures that differing schedules between the master and secondary bedrooms do not cause any disturbance, even when sharing the dressing room and master bathroom. In the master bedroom, the headboard wall features staggered vertical wooden slats in gray and white, harmonizing with the pleats of the curtains. Even the height of a single pendant light precisely corresponds to the hidden cabinet doors. From the master bedroom to the master bathroom, continuous window views follow your steps, with dark gray stone tiles and slate tiles echoing the natural textures and greenery outside the windows. The secondary bedroom serves as a multifunctional room, with walls, ceiling, and floor all clad in wood, extending natural elements through material transitions. The elevated platform design of the tatami bed also provides ample storage. Greenery and light, nature and simplicity, become the endless abundance of this home.

A residence is like a fine wine filled with cultural charm; the spatial planning, material selection, proportion blending, and soft furnishings are all part of a meticulous formula. This relies on the designer's ability to integrate the resident's personality and preferences, understanding the interactions between people and between people and space. The creation of such a space is akin to the complex process of fermentation control, requiring not only rational precision but also acute awareness and empathy. Through experience and practice, aesthetic beauty can be subtly infused, resulting in a warm and rich taste.
