Continuing the Dialogue Between Time and Space, Seeking Eternity Through Efficient Beauty

Q. Your headquarters is located at Espai Alfaro, a place steeped in Spanish artistic tradition. Could you tell us why you chose to establish your studio there and what kind of inspiration it has provided?

A. Our studio is currently situated near Valencia, at Espai Alfaro, which was once the workshop of the renowned 20th-century Spanish sculptor Andreu Alfaro. The site consists of several buildings arranged around a courtyard filled with monumental sculptures. Over time, this historic complex has evolved into a cultural workspace that offers a variety of atmospheres, bringing together art, design, and architecture to foster creativity, dialogue, and the exchange of ideas. It has effectively become our creative oasis.

Alfaro was celebrated for his abstract and minimalist works, often incorporating industrial materials and exploring the interplay of space, form, and balance—showcasing extraordinary powers of synthesis. Immersed in such a creative environment on a daily basis, we cannot help but be influenced by his design ethos. This setting enhances our team’s integrative capabilities and allows us to take advantage of the ample space to develop full-scale models.

Continuing the Dialogue Between Time and Space, Seeking Eternity Through Efficient Beauty

Surrounded by a pure white backdrop at the Fran Silvestre Arquitectos headquarters in Valencia, Spain, one is immediately drawn to the crisp lines that reveal the space’s truest form. Here, light and shadow interplay freely across white surfaces, fully embodying the team’s definition of minimalist aesthetics and sustainable architecture. In this WABISABI team interview, the core figure of Fran Silvestre Arquitectos, Fran Silvestre, discusses how he navigates the complex relationships between architecture, people, and the environment. He also explains how he employs a new design language to extend the techniques and values of classical architecture, thus striving to realize what he calls “efficient beauty.”
