GIGI Studios Offices

As a corporate headquarters, the use of spatial design often transcends mere functionality, becoming an alternative language that conveys a brand’s core values and identity. The renovation of Gigi Studios Headquarters exemplifies this approach. Originating as a family business in Barcelona, Gigi Studios has developed into a global leader in the optical industry. Its headquarters, located in Sant Cugat del Vallès, occupies a building characterized by four fully glazed façades that flood the interior with natural light, creating the perfect setting for innovative design.

Breaking away from conventional office formats, the design team at Isern Serra transformed the rectangular floor plan into a fluid, O-shaped circulation system. This configuration connects approximately 900 square meters of space, creating a seamless flow while embodying the brand’s values of modernity, elegance, and creativity. Through the deconstruction of craftsmanship, a carefully curated color palette, and the dynamic interplay of natural light and shadow, the design redefines spatial language. The resulting workspace strikes a delicate balance between the comfort of a home and the sophistication of an art gallery, fostering an environment where contemporary creativity can flourish.

The floor plan features two primary entrances, each leading to expansive, open horizontal axes, allowing uninterrupted sightlines. These entryways lead to dual reception lounges that gently unfold into open work areas. To enhance the sensory experience, Isern Serra juxtaposed different materials and forms, combining concrete-crafted horseshoe-shaped seating with stainless steel C-shaped bases, softened by upholstered cushions. Sculptural Boa Pouf stools by HEM and sheer curtains complement the cool tones of the concrete and steel, creating a nuanced balance between raw materials. The curtains, delicately hung, serve to define semi-enclosed spaces, maintaining a sense of openness while providing flexibility for functional privacy.
At the core of the headquarters, the lift lobby and stairwell are surrounded by custom-designed cabinetry, blending functionality with artistic expression. Stainless steel niches embedded in the cabinetry transform books and prototypes into curated displays, echoing the materiality of the surrounding C-shaped structures. This dual-purpose design allows employees to sit on the inner sofas for quiet reading or engage in conversations with colleagues seated on Mobles 114’s Nuta stools positioned along the outer edge of the C-shaped structure. By incorporating contemporary elements, the design creates distinct visual perspectives along the horizontal axes, celebrating the brand’s core values of innovation and creativity.

The short axes of the building are designated for more private areas, including enclosed offices, meeting rooms, a multifunctional kitchen, and a showroom. The kitchen, adjacent to the showroom, is bathed in the soft glow of morning sunlight, creating a relaxed and welcoming space for informal gatherings. Illuminated by Santa & Cole’s Head Hat pendant lights, the microcement-finished kitchen island serves as a sculptural focal point, exuding understated elegance. This versatile area also functions as a venue for product launches and casual gatherings, seamlessly integrating with the open work areas and reception lounges to create a cohesive and inviting atmosphere.

The showroom, oriented towards the setting sun, is filled with warm, diffused light during the late afternoon. The building’s sole full-height wall serves as a display area, while two sculptural tables, supported by hand-carved Roman travertine rock bases, take center stage. These tables subtly embody the brand’s commitment to innovation and artistry. The rhythm of light and shadow shifts throughout the day, accentuated by circular ceiling fixtures, creating a dynamic, immersive visual experience. A circular aperture in the partition wall functions as a refined visual filter, framing dual perspectives and connecting the spaces with elegance. On the opposite side, private offices and meeting rooms are designed to prioritize focus and privacy. Curved pathways lead to these spaces, with niches offering serene seating areas for quiet reflection. These rooms benefit from abundant natural light and expansive outdoor views, promoting creativity and productivity. The thoughtful design of these spaces elevates the quality of work, ensuring that every meeting becomes an effective and engaging exchange of ideas.
