"Expression, for me, does not reside in passions glowing in a human face or manifested by violent movement. The entire arrangement of my picture is expressive; the place occupied by the figures, the empty spaces around them, the proportions, everything has its share." — Henri Matisse

Matisse used vibrant and bold colors to highlight the relationships between elements on the canvas. In the works of chūxiàng design, natural and simple colors are often employed to give three-dimensional forms a space for self-expression. Similar to the changing formations of playing cards in "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," these elements create dynamic energy within the space.

This magic also lightly illuminates the entrance of this project. The floor-to-ceiling glass brick screen is separated from the lacquered pillars on either side, and these seemingly independent elements are connected by wooden boards, adding a light rhythm to the beige space specified by the client. The glass brick screen provides privacy without diminishing the spaciousness, while the wooden board can also serve as a shoe bench, blending functionality with a touch of playfulness.

Equipment is hidden within the smooth ceiling, and storage is neatly integrated into the unified color scheme. In the spacious and unobstructed public area, the designer employs different materials to create layers within the serene beige environment that can be appreciated daily. The walls are coated with textured paint, the floor is laid with simple and delicate PANDOMO flooring, lacquered wood cabinets with travertine platforms are crafted, and thin brick dining tables are placed in the dining area. The harmonious interaction of different materials within the same color palette makes the space clean and airy, yet subtly expressive.

To meet the client's working needs, designer Kuo-Feng Tseng created a workspace that continues the color theme of the space and features smart lighting with adjustable color temperatures. Behind the desk, wooden cabinets are designed to store vinyl records, posters, and other works. Considering the client often has friends over, a low-back, dual-facing sofa set is designed to face the desk, and a large-scale dining table is chosen, allowing for interaction with many friends at the desk and also dining with family and friends.

The curves of the wall columns, desk, sofa, and ceiling create ripples of varying heights throughout the space, allowing the beige tone to flow softly. The gold-bronze coffee table, lighting fixtures, and hardware, along with the warm yellow indirect lighting, follow the beige and curves from the public area to the private area, adorning the space. This seemingly tranquil scenery is infused with vibrant energy. Who says a monochromatic palette is dull and lifeless? When a designer uses different materials, forms, and design elements with conscious placement, it awakens the unique vitality of the space.
