QUEEN SHOP- Life Store

Over the last few years during the pandemic, many establishments in the downtown area have put up "for rent" signs, while online transactions have transformed past consumption patterns. But as the pandemic subsides and people are once again returning to their traditional consumption habits, brick-and-mortar stores are making a comeback and exploring the possibilities that spaces can offer. In addition to providing access to basic retail transactions, store environments are also a venue for brands to develop their identities and communicate their messages, providing a consumer experience that cannot be replaced by virtual e-commerce.

Chūxiàng Design was commissioned by the apparel label "Queen Shop" for the design of a lifestyle store that is not just a fashion boutique. On the facade, designer Tseng Guo Feng has always been fond of preserving a sense of mystery, so that prior to stepping into the interior of the space, one can generate additional visualizations of the happenings inside. The heavy wooden door provides curiosity arising from the unknown, while the extensive floor-to-ceiling windows faintly disclose the occurrences. The island-style showcases, where seasonal products are hung on components with contrasting colors and materials against the walls and flooring, highlight the brand's characteristics, and can be seen once the wooden door is pushed open, creating a space reminiscent of a cave. Scents of freshly brewed coffee can be identified all the way on the ground floor. If you follow the scent, you'll find the stairwell leading to the upper level hidden behind an iron panel that stretches all the way to the ceiling. The view is framed at the turn, bringing the scene of the first-floor selection with you as you ascend to a new level. The dressing area, which must be kept relatively private, is tucked away in a quiet nook under the stairs and is just the right size for its purpose.
You can relax on the sip-stone seating and unpack your new purchases in the lounge area on the second floor. You could also choose to bask in the sun in front of the bar's expansive open window and people-watch the busy street below. The coffee station's working surface is a simple wood grain countertop inlaid in a black volume; it's calm and quiet like the rest of the room. A framework is provided by the pillars and bar on both sides, as well as the warm light source concealed within the wood trim, to denote the main and guest areas. Customers who aren't yet satisfied with their shopping experience can access the back space via a bridge in the ceiling. The ceiling track's transparent folding doors provide a versatile means of delineating the third-floor classroom used for teaching baking and floral design.

The old three-story apartment benefits from a newfound vitality thanks to the thoughtful preservation of original features like dark wood and sleek black iron panels. Queen Shop's concept of aesthetic continuity in life is shown through the incorporation of non-retail uses on the different floors, such as a dessert cafe and a floral baking class.

Queen Shop
