Retail Display Space
”We believe that everyone who steps into the space should connect with their own homes.“ People entering the AJ2 Zhubei showroom are actively seeking a comfortable sofa or a bed for a peaceful sleep. The theatrical presentation of the environment allows people to better connect with the home scenes, and the immersive and delightful experience enhances the brand's quality while embedding its essence deep into the spatial design.
This marks the fifth collaboration between CMYK-STUDIO and Taiwanese furniture brand AJ2, their first venture beyond Taipei, bringing an exciting new face to Hsinchu. Both designers and owners are filled with fresh ambitions for this novel undertaking. The space differs greatly in terms of scale alone, with the ground floor featuring a stunning seven-meter high ceiling offering an expansive vista. The displays are meticulously planned according to the typical living room dimensions in Hsinchu residences. The visual appeal diverges from the erstwhile minimalist and elegant aesthetics. A bold use of color palettes and materials, such as solid glass bricks and ceramic tiles, invokes intricate emotions within the space, beautifully accentuating the products' subtle and sophisticated earth tones.
The first floor begins its extraordinary visual experience right from the entrance. A solid glass brick wall reveals glimpses of the interior, while also fostering a sense of ambiguity and imagination. Moreover, in the windy city of Hsinchu, this wall serves a more crucial purpose: to prevent discomfort caused by strong winds entering the entrance. The use of glass brick material is sparingly stacked along the circulation route, harnessing the refraction and diffusion of light and shadows during different times of the day to create various spatial atmospheres. The floor layout transitions from herringbone pattern at the entrance to diagonal pattern indoors, a common flooring material in home design. Which evokes visitors with the feeling of being in their own living room. The diagonal pattern breaks away from conventional aesthetics, enhancing the sense of spatial extension and allowing product arrangements to adapt along its axis.
The design of the circulation from the first floor to the second floor mirrors the flow of a home space. Upon entering, there is a spacious common area with a sofa, where various-sized sections can serve as a welcoming living room or a more intimate lounge. Ascending the stairs leads to the mattress display area, where the ambiance becomes softer. Woven flooring and sheer curtains create a comfortable sleeping environment, and more curved elements are introduced into the space, softening the impact of large beams and cleverly sculpting pillars into bed headboards or as dividers to distinguish different product themes. In the vertical circulation, there is a deliberate separation between the stairs leading to the office floor, using a white color to lighten the staircase. On the other hand, the stairs to the second-floor display area retain the existing solid wood handrails. These handrails are covered with an elegant wood texture to create a sense of volume and provide a captivating view, while still preserving the stone-textured surface of the original staircase. The color scheme of the tiles links the two floors together while allowing each to express its unique personality. The attention to detail is profound and delicate, reflecting the brand's image and quality.
