SUMO

The design of the circle starts from the body of the building. The façade of the house is a large span of arcs. The balcony also consists of two wave-shaped circular floor-to-ceiling windows. To echo this, the interior layout continues the element of "circle" with appropriate angles and scales, drawing on the spirit of traditional Japanese culture of sumo wrestling to express its essence and belief. The image of courageous, tough yet soft, creates a soft but regular movement in the form. The walls of the space range from large to small, all of which are stable yet gentle and intriguing.
Entering the foyer, the other side of the space is brightly lit. In the bright end view, gray becomes a language of light, and the diffused light from the rounded windows into the room reads the movement from light to dark. The white walls, with vertical design details of rounded corners and delamination, present shadows, deepen the sense of three-dimensionality, and strengthen the context between gray and white.

The wall in the living room is just like that of a sumo wrestler, with a strong presence, and the Lotus plaster is calm and textured. Between the division of the rounded corners and the advancement and retreat, the space is delicately closed with solid wood, and when the indirect light source is drilled through the gap, the atmosphere of the space is suddenly softened, expressing the emotional ups and downs only between the twists and turns, and echoing the architecture from the inside out. The two arc-shaped floor-to-ceiling windows, created by the structure of the building, define the location of the public and private spheres. The first arc window is the public domain where the living room and dining room are connected. The gray and green sofa is like a floating island floating in the bright light, with no fixed seating direction and no rules, a simple and casual self-discipline, just like the practicality of the design that hides the storage in the wall. Inside and outside, the vertical shape of the cabinet and the storage system are all made into rules, brewing the life connotation of both function and aesthetics.
The second curved window is planned as a private master bedroom, extending the gray language and wood of the public domain into it. The round language is integrated into the surrounding area in different sizes and embellished with the same geometric vertical levels. The pure beauty of the space is concentrated in a circle, an arc, and a line, so that the perception of space is connected to nature with diffuse light. The spirit of traditional culture extends to the wabi-sabi or the dead objects that condense time, fusing modern language and allowing the interplay of time to bring up the unpredictable mentality of being at ease, feeling every moment of life and the things that happen in every corner of space.
