Taslab office

In the heart of Bilbao, there lies a sun-drenched, spacious, and captivating space within an old industrial building from the 1950s. This place was the ideal location discovered by the designer after a long search.

This unique space is located on the seventh floor of the building, offering a distinctive urban landscape of Bilbao. Originally designed for heavy industry, the building's structure is made of durable concrete. In the 1970s, it underwent a significant transformation into office space, with the interior divided into multiple small offices. Such historical background endows the space with a rich historical depth, serving as the starting point for its design.

The original concrete structure and terrazzo floor from the 1970s have been preserved, dedicated to showcasing the building's past as a heavy industrial facility while integrating contemporary design concepts. This clever fusion of past and present transforms the space into an open, bright studio and residence, making it more versatile and layered. In addition to professional work areas, it includes a bedroom and a fully functional bathroom, and it's equipped with a woodworking workshop for handcrafting furniture.

Benefiting from its top-floor location, the space is enveloped with windows on all sides, ensuring plentiful natural light and creating an illusion of being outdoors, which allows the space to reveal its diverse allure at varying times and for different purposes. Within the space, there's a small gallery showcasing not only photography works captured worldwide with a Hasselblad 500C but also a collection of cameras favored by the designer. Moreover, the space is adorned with symbolic family heirlooms, the most unique of which is a mini-bar from his great-great-grandmother. Crafted during a course in Cuba, it was brought to Bilbao in the 1970s. Beyond its sentimental value, it also adds a layer of warmth to the space.

This space serves not just as the designer's studio and living area but also as a showcase of the designer's creativity and reverence for history. Every nook and cranny reflects a seamless integration of the past, present, and future, turning it into an architectural art filled with stories and a vibrant ambiance.
