Rediscovering the Essence of Living in the Aegean — 1OAM apotheke

Amid the crowded streets where concrete rises layer upon layer and the sky feels sliced into fragments too narrow to breathe, information and emotion collide in constant waves. We crave a quiet place where the mind can return to itself, to ask—what does it truly mean to live?

Perhaps the answer lies on Antiparos, a small island in the southern Aegean with barely 1,300 residents. At its heart, inside a former folklore museum now reawakened, 1OAM apotheke takes shape as a concept store that intertwines retail, café, and bar. Designed by Studio Andrew Trotter in collaboration with the brand’s founder Eva Papadaki, it builds an island rhythm of refinement and ease—through objects, scents, nourishment, and gathering.

Memory as a Measure of Simplicity

“Memory is the truest wealth of humankind. It holds every sensation, sound, landscape, and word we have ever known—our personal apotheke, the repository of life itself.”

For Eva Papadaki, those memories begin and remain in Crete: the scent of herbs from her grandmother’s garden, the olive oil pressed by her family, the sweetness of honey, and the warmth of bread fresh from the oven. These everyday impressions quietly shaped her sensibility.

Honey, salt, oil, bread, tea, soap, candles, and fragrance form the brand’s core—objects that are not merely products but a return to the essence of living, gestures of connection and continuity. 1OAM apotheke pays tribute to small, independent producers who respect nature and time, creating in limited quantities, guided by seasonality and sincerity.

Where Boundaries Blur, Encounters Begin

Just steps from the Aegean Sea, the concept store mirrors the island itself—understated yet enduringly elegant, tactile in its materiality, effortlessly alluring. Together with Anastasia Tsourekas, founder of Louisa stores, and Thanasis Panourgias, owner of Bardot, Papadaki extends the brand’s philosophy of mindful living, seasonality, and refined simplicity into a spatial and culinary experience.

“Our intention was to create a seamless experience where people can explore, unwind, and connect,” explains Andrew Trotter, Creative Director of the studio. “The design draws on the tactile essence of the Cyclades, with lime-plastered walls, handcrafted ceramics, and warm woods—remaining contemporary yet quietly unexpected.”

The boundary between interior and exterior is intentionally softened. Custom marble furnishings by Theodore Psychoyos, diffused light, and a palette of natural hues bring depth and calm. Every element, from the spatial rhythm to the smallest material gesture, evokes a sense of place and invites human closeness.

From Morning Light to Nightfall

From sunrise to midnight, the doors remain open. Mornings begin with a ritual of minimal-waste breakfasts inspired by village life: herbs picked from the back garden, coffee by Red Jane, and 1OAM apotheke teas—malotira, dittany, and sage—brewed fresh with the season’s ingredients.

As dusk falls, the space transforms into a Botanical Bar, serving drinks infused with wild and native botanicals, accompanied by a changing menu rooted in local produce. The atmosphere dissolves distinctions between home, store, and studio—becoming a place that nurtures connection through the quiet pleasure of being together.
