5 HOUSES IN SANTA BÁRBARA

The project consists of 5 detached single-family homes which, depending on their features, have either three or four bedrooms distributed across one or two floors.

The homes are distinguished by the presence of versatile spaces that provide a greater degree of flexibility, allowing use as bedrooms, offices, or teleworking spaces.

Each home is organized and designed to maximize outdoor space, including a swimming pool, play areas, and semi-covered spaces that enhance outdoor living. Brick has been a decisive element in the project's development and the final aesthetic outcome of the homes. The election of this material to shape the exterior appearance of the homes connects with the ceramic tradition of Valencia and its Mediterranean surroundings.

The single-story homes (3) resolve their volumetry using only this ceramic material, achieving a uniform and homogeneous image in terms of color and finish. Meanwhile, the two-story homes (2) use brick to form a base that touches the ground. Additionally, a special ceramic piece is used to create a ceramic lattice that filters the entry of light into the home and provides varying degrees of privacy.

This residential project has been designed with sustainability criteria in mind, achieving the highest energy rating and thus reducing energy consumption and carbon footprint. For this, establishing the correct orientation was crucial to allow each home to maximize natural light, wind, and views. Moreover, each home includes underfloor heating, an Airzone ducted air conditioning system, a motorized shutter system, and pre-installation for electric vehicle chargers. Additionally, the use of vegetation and permeable pavements helps rainwater infiltration, contributing to the restoration of its natural cycle.

All this has allowed for the creation of homes that seek the comfort of future users while adapting to new ways of life and the energy demands of the current climate crisis.
