Between the strokes, through alleys and lanes.

"When accepting this business proposition, my first thought is about how to translate it into architectural language, to create a structure that fits in Chengdu's Swire Pacific Place. Secondly, I hope that when the temporary structure expires, the materials themselves can be recycled and reused. I began with bamboo. Bamboo is like the hair of the earth, completing a growth cycle in just two or three years and endlessly regenerating. Therefore, this is bamboo architecture, built with the most easily available material - it's the most eco-friendly structure."

Architecture understands meaning, Chinese characters understand form.
"The Chinese characters for 'person,' 'enter,' and 'eight' are all composed of a downward left stroke and a downward right stroke. They represent the core theme of the event: 'the connection between people,' 'the gateway to the world,' and 'the eight-year journey of time.' While writing these strokes, we discovered that they present a very stable triangular relationship, which perfectly conforms to the principles of architectural mechanics. Therefore, a construction system based on these strokes naturally emerged."

Architecture weaves through alleys, traffic intersects lanes.
The plaza extends west to Shamao Street, adjacent to the city's main thoroughfare. This is both a destination and a starting point in the urban road network. We hope that this is a building with spiritual attributes, like planting a flag, starting to reconnect with the world.

The building is constructed on the principle of 'chuandou,' naturally forming a system of intersecting planes that mimic the pattern of lanes ('qianmo'). 'Chuandou', also referred to as 'chuandou' in the local dialect, is an architectural structure common in Sichuan and Shu, and especially prevalent in Chengdu. We use 'chuandou' as the carrier to support the 'piena' (left and right strokes) beams. On the first floor, we have placed eight art spaces, becoming a 'trendy' place to voice out. The steel structure corridor on the second floor leads to the third-floor platform, overlooking the vast plaza. Standing on the third-floor platform, one can look far north to the plaque of Shengu Daci Temple, and west to the streets of modern Taikoo Li. The platform itself feels like a time corridor where the past and present converge. On the 'chuandou' structure, a vertically intersecting and connected system is formed.

Bamboo stools under a canopy, sustainable and renewable.
The recyclable materials of the entire temporary building can be divided into three types:
1. Bamboo structure: After being dismantled, it is reused as outdoor bamboo stools.
2. Steel structure: After being dismantled, it is completely recycled by a scrap steel factory.
3. Silver film: Used as the seat cushion for outdoor bamboo stools, it is recycled for further use by being tied to the stool.

"Our original intention in designing this building was that, after it has completed its temporary mission, it could be taken anywhere." After the 20-day exhibition period expires, Naked Renewal transforms it into an outdoor bench, quietly guarding the land it sits on, observing the comings and goings, and simultaneously embodying the sustainable development ethos of Chengdu's Swire Pacific Place. Or if possible, it could continue its mission as another 'architectural component' for the city of Chengdu.
