Chen Residence

Interior design should place "people" at the center, deeply considering and exploring their fundamental needs and feelings. This approach grants new appearances to spaces while returning to the essence of life. The homeowners of this project had previously collaborated with Li Li Space, establishing strong trust and confidently entrusting the design team with complete creative freedom for their new residence. Initially, when designers Hong Huei-Ling and Wang Cheng-Ping visited the property, they noted issues of insufficient lighting and poor ventilation due to the building's age. They pondered, "If this were our own home, what kind of experience would we want from the space?" With this empathetic perspective, they set about improving the existing conditions to provide a comfortable living environment.

The homeowner, a doctor, understands how to enjoy life and especially looks forward to spending warm family moments with his wife and children when he comes home. Therefore, the designer decided to remove some partition walls to expand the public area, allowing natural light to flow into different parts of the interior and ensuring smooth air circulation. By eliminating the bathroom partition near the entrance, enough space was created for the kitchen and dining area. The common bathroom was relocated to the original kitchen space, connected to the outdoor utility balcony, with the washer and dryer moved indoors to create a laundry room. This design allows for comfortable indoor use of the utility space, meets the homeowner's cooking habits, and promotes family interaction. Additionally, gaps at the top and bottom of the TV wall create a sense of visual transparency. The clear division between public and private areas ensures smooth and open traffic flow, aligning with the family's lifestyle and needs, and enhancing the functionality of each space.
