FR House

The FR House is located on a cliffside in the beachside town of Punta Fuego, overlooking the South China Sea in Punta Fuego, Philippines, and is a cast-in-place concrete residence two hours from Manila. Its design focuses on integrating with the steep topography and waterfront views while creating natural ventilation and minimizing mechanical cooling.

The steep topography and relatively narrow lot determined the building's appearance. To blend the structure with its environment, the design team at CAZA divided the house into a series of equally sized concrete cubes that rest on the slope, facing the sky and ocean, replacing traditional windows.

By using cast-in-place concrete, the structure maximizes living space in the narrow environment. This material also regulates the house's temperature, keeping the interiors cool. The raw, unfinished concrete lends a casual atmosphere to the interiors, while light wood finishes on door handles and handrails add warmth to the concrete. Each room has skylights oriented in different directions, offering views of the ocean, sky, or garden, while maintaining sufficient privacy from neighboring lots.
