Hakuhodo Gravity

"What is the role of an office?" This question was central to DDAA’s design of a new workspace for Hakuhodo Gravity in Japan. The COVID-19 pandemic drastically altered lifestyles, impacting personal health, daily routines, and economic development across industries. In the realm of work, while remote work had already existed, the pandemic forced many companies to fully embrace it, leading people to reconsider the function of an office in an age where modern communication tools allow for efficient remote collaboration.

Hakuhodo Gravity, known for its innovative campaigns like the live-action “Gravity Cat,” required a workspace that could accommodate the new post-pandemic workstyles. They needed a space that offered the freedom of working from home while fostering interpersonal interactions in a flexible, dynamic office environment.

DDAA’s design for the Tokyo office revolved around the keyword "Mingle," which refers to bringing people together to collaborate and create, while maintaining their individual characteristics. This word perfectly captured the kind of workspace modern companies desire. Although the building's interior followed a standardized office design, DDAA ensured an open-plan layout by using furniture to define the different areas rather than traditional partitions. The U-shaped office configuration, centered around a lounge, was designed to accommodate varying work modes, allowing employees to naturally shift between focused work and relaxation. Instead of conventional partitions, DDAA designed furniture using materials like ropes and textiles, commonly used in the fashion industry—one of the company’s core sectors. This flexible design injected new vitality into the traditional office setup, allowing the space to evolve with the company’s changing needs.
