Crafting form into language: a silent dialogue between visibility and invisibility, reality and abstraction. "IN BETWEEN" is a 12-square-meter studio where designer Meg Chou redefines space through the interplay of lines and surfaces, creating a balance between dynamic and static elements. By carefully adjusting proportions and layering spatial sequences, the designer abstracts and refines spatial order, combining selected materials to shape an atmosphere of creative inspiration.
This project, developed by STUDIO ONE, demonstrates mastery in using lines to define space. Through the concept of visibility and invisibility, the design employs a layered approach to create visual depth. The subtle connection between lines and surfaces discreetly defines functional boundaries, offering dynamic visual experiences with each movement through the space. The interplay between shelves and cabinets blurs the line between solid and void, enhancing spatial flow. Sunlight filtering through blinds casts soft shadows, gradually moving across the interior, adding warmth and vitality to the serene ambiance.
Meg Chou’s material choices extend beyond visual appeal, incorporating textures and finishes that interact harmoniously within the space. Black wood establishes a calm base, while troweled plaster enhances the tranquil atmosphere. Metallic silver cabinets complement the island countertop with a modern sheen, while subtle stone accents balance the overall harmony. These materials, blending the real and abstract, perfectly embody STUDIO ONE’s design philosophy.
