My Little Museum

When you gaze at a piece of art, does it resonate with your soul? When you play music, does it stir your heartstrings? In the pursuit of goals and ideals, we often forget to slow down, to truly experience life and appreciate the beauty of the present moment. In reality, only by embracing life can we truly live in this world. Just like the homeowner, who has a passion for collecting antique furniture and classic design pieces, chose to create a holiday retreat in the conveniently located city of Zhubei, where they can follow their taste and sense of quality. On weekends, they come here to relax and unwind, sometimes inviting friends and family for small gatherings.

As you step through the door, the thoughtfully designed entryway discreetly conceals a shoe bench behind the hidden door of the guest bathroom, with the wood grain finish quietly conversing with the home’s décor, weaving a serene, natural retreat. The living room, with its modified open layout, appears particularly spacious, allowing for free-flowing interaction within the communal area. With fewer defined boundaries, the space becomes more flexible, not constrained by a fixed TV wall, allowing furniture to be moved freely to suit different scenarios. Within the clean-lined framework, light-colored floor tiles accentuate the texture of the wooden table and chairs, as well as the shelves behind, with the warm sunlight streaming in, creating picturesque scenes of everyday life.

Extending your view to the kitchen, the island integrates storage functionality, making it a place where, even on days when no cooking occurs, friends can gather around the table to enjoy wine and conversation. The homeowner happily shares that the black cabinetry, set against a light cream background, has garnered many compliments from friends, bringing them great satisfaction. Additionally, by transforming the secondary bedroom into a multifunctional room, the lady of the house can comfortably practice yoga, play the cello, and store camping equipment.

From the architectural modifications to the design phase, the designer understood that the homeowner’s evolving preferences leaned towards Japanese aesthetics, characterized by natural textures and a Japanese-inspired ambiance. The decision was made to allow these antiques and classic design pieces to tell their stories, thoughtfully placed within the understated space. Whether intentionally or unintentionally, these elements reflect fleeting thoughts and memories, embedding them into daily life, making them eternal.
