TESSERA HOUSE
Nestled in a serene and upscale neighborhood in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, this residence sits on a generous 12,000-square-foot plot, with a total built-up area of 6,000 square feet. Designed to provide both expansive living spaces and ample outdoor areas, the house seamlessly integrates architecture with its natural surroundings.
The structure presents a clean and understated rectangular form, with a two-story layout that enhances the sense of openness. A double-height living area serves as the heart of the home, creating an airy and grand atmosphere. The homeowners sought to maximize every aspect of the property, extending beyond the interiors to the outdoor and rooftop spaces. To achieve this, the architects designed a series of elevated terraces that wrap around the house, creating fluid connections between different areas while adding depth and movement to the spatial experience. These intermediary platforms ensure that every side of the home is activated and utilized.
Stepping through the framed main entrance, one is immediately welcomed by an open-plan living area finished in raw concrete. Large glass openings offer unobstructed views of the garden and swimming pool, where a mature rambutan tree stands as a focal point, infusing the space with natural vitality. Above the living area, a striking black sliding window measuring 10 meters in length and 4 meters in height adds a dynamic architectural feature. When closed, it fosters a calm and introspective ambiance with subtle light filtering through; when opened, it dissolves the boundary between indoors and outdoors, framing nature as an integral part of the living experience and expanding the spatial perception.
