Wildlings

Each year in Logroño, Spain, the Concéntrico International Festival of Architecture and Design in Public Space brings together creators from across the globe, transforming the city into a laboratory for experimentation and public dialogue. For the 2025 edition, architect Klára Koldová and designer Eduard Herrmann of Nami nami studio unveiled Wildlings, an experiential installation.

At its heart lies a symbolic “forest floor,” encircled by delicate, translucent curtains. Passing through the swaying fabric, visitors step into a realm gently set apart from the city’s noise and bustle. Inside, natural elements—pinecones, branches, soil, and stones—are scattered loosely, awaiting recomposition or spontaneous play. Their presence underscores impermanence, change, and the ever-shifting rhythms of nature.

Wildlings offers a moment of pause, inviting people to slow their pace and immerse themselves in a pure, sensory interaction with the natural world. At the same time, it poses a critique of contemporary play culture: in a landscape dominated by plastic toys, glowing screens, and pre-scripted scenarios, children are increasingly detached from spontaneity, imagination, and direct contact with nature.
The circular structure is assembled from lightweight, foldable aluminum rods, curtains, and telescopic fishing poles anchored to eight local stones. This pared-down design integrates seamlessly with its surroundings, while evoking nostalgic memories of childhood—building blanket forts under the table, or stacking pebbles in the backyard, moments of playful freedom that shaped early curiosity about the world. More than a temporary installation, Wildlings acts as a key to unlocking the childlike wonder that lingers within us all, rekindling the joy of free, imaginative play.
