At the rear, six expansive windows open the living and garden levels to an abundance of daylight, blurring the boundary between interior and exterior. Sunlight pours over a sculptural stair that spirals upward through the home, carving out a spatial rhythm and animating its architectural form. The same light grazes exposed beams, flooring, and window frames—each crafted from heart pine salvaged from a 19th-century New York building. Preserved nail holes, weathering, and surface checks offer a subtle yet poignant trace of the material’s storied past.

A monolithic kitchen island and bathroom surfaces clad in Vermont marble—quarried domestically and marked by dramatic, swirling veining—introduce a raw, geological texture to the interiors, grounding the space with a sense of elemental permanence. In the rear yard, cast glass vault lights, a nod to a classic New York streetscape detail, channel daylight into the cellar below, infusing the subterranean level with a gentle glow.

Throughout the home, custom-designed furnishings are paired with carefully curated objects, creating an atmosphere of cohesion and understated luxury. A checkered walnut gaming table, both tactile and functional, evokes the craftsmanship and timeless elegance at the heart of the project. In the primary suite, a bespoke brass bathtub becomes a sculptural centerpiece, its gleaming patina elevating the intimate space with a quiet opulence. Brent Buck Architects’ intervention preserves the home’s historical character while embracing a restrained, material-forward modernity—where light, texture, and memory converge in a finely calibrated residential composition.
