 Yuanzu

A home should be a haven of stability. During discussions with the homeowner, IF Polis Design sparked an initial concept for a house situated where the mountains and waters meet in Yilan County, Taiwan. True belonging is created through forms that cultivate an inner sense of security and grounding. Even in the face of external disruptions, the space remains a sanctuary, offering peace and solitude as if separated from the outside world. In such an atmosphere, people are naturally inclined to let down their guard, reconnecting with the innermost core of their being. This experience evokes a profound sense of ease and contentment, an unspoken feeling of being at home.

IF Polis Design embraced this sense of belonging as a foundational element by integrating organic elements from the outdoors into the interior. In harmony with nature’s flow, organic forms are woven throughout the space, while natural curves mirror the fluidity of the surrounding landscapes. This organic approach not only serves to release inner tension but also awakens a desire for closeness with nature. The designer further used curves to shape subtle transitions within the space, creating partitions that alternate between visibility and obscurity. These semi-concealed corners, reminiscent of morning mist, evoke a sense of depth and intrigue—spaces that are hidden yet perceptible, inviting quiet exploration.

The forms introduced within the space naturally resonate with the surrounding environment, establishing a connection between the body, mind, and space. This allows the homeowner to find a serene refuge amidst the demands of a fast-paced, ever-changing world. The concept of "Yuanzu" is rooted in the idea of organic forms fostering inner belonging. Through the interplay of natural contours and interior lines, the design creates a seamless dialogue. These curves and shapes not only define the home as a place of dwelling but also provide an emotional outlet and a retreat for the soul.
