A home should be a haven of stability. During discussions with the homeowner, IF Polis Design sparked an initial concept for a house situated where the mountains and waters meet in Yilan County, Taiwan. True belonging is created through forms that cultivate an inner sense of security and grounding. Even in the face of external disruptions, the space remains a sanctuary, offering peace and solitude as if separated from the outside world. In such an atmosphere, people are naturally inclined to let down their guard, reconnecting with the innermost core of their being. This experience evokes a profound sense of ease and contentment, an unspoken feeling of being at home.
IF Polis Design embraced this sense of belonging as a foundational element by integrating organic elements from the outdoors into the interior. In harmony with nature’s flow, organic forms are woven throughout the space, while natural curves mirror the fluidity of the surrounding landscapes. This organic approach not only serves to release inner tension but also awakens a desire for closeness with nature. The designer further used curves to shape subtle transitions within the space, creating partitions that alternate between visibility and obscurity. These semi-concealed corners, reminiscent of morning mist, evoke a sense of depth and intrigue—spaces that are hidden yet perceptible, inviting quiet exploration.
