As Henri Matisse once said, “Color helps to express light—not the physical phenomenon, but the only light that really exists, that in the artist's brain.” Matisse viewed color as a vehicle for emotional and intellectual expression, a sentiment echoed by other artists such as Edvard Munch, who famously remarked, “I sense a scream passing through nature. I painted... the clouds as actual blood. The color shrieked.” Munch’s use of vivid colors in "The Scream" evokes an auditory sensation, demonstrating color’s power to convey emotional intensity. Similarly, Vincent Van Gogh said, “Instead of trying to reproduce exactly what I see before me, I make more arbitrary use of color to express myself more forcefully.” These artistic statements underscore how color functions as a dynamic language, conveying emotions and relationships beyond literal representation.

This exhibition presents a captivating array of six artists—Chun-Pin Lin, Hakuta Yoshuya, Zdenek Konvalina, Hannah Carrick, Tzu-Yun Yen and Wei-Cheng Tsai—each bringing a distinctive approach to color. Their collective works demonstrate how color can be manipulated to create various narratives, atmospheres, and emotional responses. Through the multi-faceted lenses of six artists, a rich tapestry of color and form emerges, inviting viewers on a journey through the boundless potential of color. This shapes a new visual experience, reaffirming the profound impact of color in contemporary art. As Matisse noted, “With color one obtains an energy that seems to stem from witchcraft.” Colors indeed carry a magical quality, capable of transforming any space with their vibrancy and life.
