A sliver of dawn appearing along the horizon brings the earth back to life, marking one of the day’s most miraculous moments. The changing light of day is a natural cycle, awakening us from the small death of sleep. At this hour, light possesses a gentle, permeating quality, like watercolor quietly altering the atmosphere of a space through shifts in brightness and color temperature. At the same time, its effects are gradual and almost imperceptible, softening and dissolving the boundaries of the physical world. Before electric lighting became commonplace, the faint glow of a candle held in one’s hands offered one of the few forms of comfort against the darkness. Today, when artificial light has rendered night and day almost indistinguishable, we may no longer depend on candlelight for illumination, yet some deeper part of us still longs for light as a source of comfort and guidance. Like a vessel adrift on an open sea, instinctively drawn toward the light of a lighthouse, we too seek a gentle yet steadfast glow in moments of uncertainty and solitude—a light that reaches into those unlit places within us.

In Italian, Alba means “dawn.” Designed by Palomba Serafini Associati for VIBIA, this lightweight and portable lamp draws from the image of night giving way to day. Resembling a slender candle rising from a softly rounded pebble, it brings a quiet sense of intimacy when placed beside a bed or by a window, recalling the poetry of a candlelit conversation. Its warm, diffused light is gentle and glare-free, like the first light of dawn kissing the horizon, finding a quiet sense of repose upon its matte-finished base, available in earthy brown, brick red, and moss green.
