FLOW

Light is one of the fundamental elements of tenancy in a residential space. The original condition of this 39-year-old apartment scarcely opened windows due to its proximity to the neighboring buildings, while the walls of the interior overly blocked the precious light source from the front balcony, making the space enclosed in darkness and need of improvement. So, the designer removed the original dark woodwork and replaced it with a white base to refresh and renovate the seasoned space.

The public area's front balcony is the primary illumination source for the living room, kitchen, and master bedroom. The designer created a leisure area between the living room and the front balcony, blurring the boundary between the living room and the outside. At the same time, a transparent glass window from the kitchen expands the angle of sunlight entering the room, sweeping away the haze of the original space and filling it with light. The transparent glass tile wall in the living room brings light into the master bedroom, using the multi-angle refraction principle of glass tiles to augment the brightness of the light. The water ripples on the brick surface shimmer from the sunlight, where the ingenuity on the wall instantly transforms into art that adorns this minimalist and simplistic residential apartment.

The couple, who often cooks, chose white enamel kitchenware to intensify the brightness, with a reeded glass sliding door to let in the light and block the grease and smoke. The only way to realize the natural lifestyle is to focus on life. The dining chairs, which can be fully concealed under the dining table, echo the designers' pre-designed smooth flow that connects to the spacious living room. Even if there is no need for a sofa, just two single chairs or lazyboys on the back, plus the padded floor, form a leisure area where friends can sit on the floor when they visit. The space has no excessive decorations, with its focus on liveability to reflect the actual appearance of living.
The design concept of "Less is more" is the core of CAdesign. Designer Hao-Chien Cheng and Yu-An Chen talked about the owner's love for a simple and simplistic living, so they had the freedom to tinker with this case. After a slight adjustment of the layout, white was chosen as the background. Hao-Chien Cheng and Yu-An Chen frankly said that the final result also surprised them. If keeping the color to a minimum, the interior will display a sense of comfort, like the wooden dining table and dining chairs with a TV cabinet bring in the temperature of life. In addition, the smooth lines weaken the presence of structural beams, allowing the design to be invisible, fully interpreting that less is more.

As the afternoon sunlight brightens the interior, the curved mirror by the door reflects the different perspectives of the living scenes, the real in the virtual and the real; the residential space emerges from the white background with the flow of light and shadow.

「Less is more」
