The Future Now

Seoul, Korea presents 'Meta-Horizons: The Future Now'. Designed by ZHA as a catalyst for the instigation and exchange of ideas and for new technologies and media to be explored, DDP opened in 2014 and has become a cultural hub and meeting place at the centre of the Dongdaemun district in Seoul. The inaugural exhibition of DDP’s new Design Museum, 'Meta-Horizons: The Future Now' continues DDP’s commitment to showcasing pioneering design, technological innovation, and contemporary creativity.

Exploring ZHA’s work across multiple fields, from digital technology to artificial intelligence and virtual reality, the exhibition outlines ZHA’s recent designs, process, and research that incorporates immersive technologies, participatory design, and new fabrication techniques. The exhibition details the practice’s collaborative, multi- disciplinary approach to developing digital design tools and the opportunities made possible when working simultaneously between virtual and physical environments.

Building a comprehensive understanding of construction materials and methods, logistical strategies and end-user case studies, ZHA develops dynamic models, tools and simulations which allow for an increased complexity and range of inputs to be incorporated into their design solutions. Historical knowledge and precedent are paired with the ability to analyse the present and define the design tools of the future.Three zones within the exhibition – Innovation, Imagination, Interaction – provide a framework for exploring the work of ZHA’s four research teams: Computation & Design (ZH CODE); Virtual Reality (ZHVR); Analytics & Insights (ZH A+I); and Social Interaction Processes (ZHA Social).

RAS + ZHA: 'Architecting the Metaverse' The exhibition marks the debut of 'Architecting the Metaverse', a collaboration between ZHA and Refik Anadol Studio (RAS) at the intersection of architecture, art, technology, and artificial intelligence (AI). Aligning with ZHA’s vision of creating transformative cultural spaces in synchronicity with their surroundings, RAS reveals its most innovative experiments with architectural data both in the physical world and the metaverse.Multi-model AI algorithms have been utilized to analyse image and script data compiled and composed by ZHA. These algorithms result in comprehensive datasets representing the practice’s portfolio of works. Visitors will experience this artwork within an immersive room, showcasing the experimental perspective of the metaverse to come by merging machine learning, AI, and ZHA’s repertoire.

（Meta-Horizons: The Future Now）展覽

地點在東大門設計廣場（DDP）的新設計博物館。位於東大門區中央的DDP同為ZHA之作，其宗旨是成為催化劑，刺激與交流新觀念，探索新科技與媒體，在2014年啟用之後成為文化樞紐與聚會地點。DDP的新設計博物館以《元宇宙視野：眼前的未來》揭幕，延續DDP的宗旨，展出開創性的設計、科技創新與當代創意。此展覽是跨領域探索ZHA之作，運用數位科技、人工智慧與虛擬實境，提綱挈領說明ZHA近年的設計、過程與研究，並與沉浸式科技、參與式設計與新製造技術融合。展覽詳細闡述事務所採用的跨領域協作法，開發數位設計工具，也訴說虛擬與實體環境同步運作可能帶來的機會。為了全方位理解建築材料與方法、後勤策略與終端使用者個案研究，ZHA開發出動態模式、工具與模擬，如此可將複雜度更高、範圍更廣的輸入端，融入到設計解決方案中。歷史知識和前例可與現狀分析能力搭配，進而界定出未來的設計工具。

展覽分成創新（Innovation）、想像（Imagination）與互動（Interaction）三個區域，並以此為架構，探索ZHA四支研究團隊的工作；這四支團隊包括運算與設計（ZH CODE）、虛擬實境（ZHVR）、分析與洞見（ZH A+I），以及社交互動過程（ZHA Social）。RAS + ZHA：「建構元宇宙」展覽中也可看見「建構元宇宙」（Architecting the Metaverse）沈浸式藝術作品初次登場，這項作品是ZHA與雷菲克・安納多爾工作室（Refik Anadol Studio，RAS）在建築、藝術、科技與人工智慧交界的合作成果。ZHA與RAS的理念有志一同，要創造有變革性的文化空間，與周圍環境保持同步性，於是RAS運用實體世界與元宇宙的建築數據，展開最創新的實驗。展覽在分析ZHA彙整與建構的圖像與腳本資料時，會使用多模型人工智慧演算法，以產生完整的資料集，呈現事務所的作品。參觀者會在沉浸式空間體驗到這項藝術作品，裡頭結合機器學習、人工智慧與ZHA之作，以實驗性視角展現元宇宙的到來。
