Golden Twilight

After a long, busy day, one longs to return to the comfort of home—to sink into the sofa and experience a profound sense of ease. All around, the space is traced with gently flowing lines that define its organic contours. From the ceiling to the walls, the subtle textures of mineral-based plaster wash the surfaces in a soft, tranquil tone, creating a calm and restorative domestic atmosphere. In this quiet setting, fluid curves seamlessly connect each function of the home. The arched ceiling and curved feature wall wrap the space with a sense of enclosure, like a gentle cavern that embraces emotion and daily rituals alike. Layered with asymmetrical furniture and walls of varied thicknesses, the composition subtly introduces rhythm and dimension, imbuing the space with a relaxed vitality.

“When I design, I listen closely to the inner voices of those who dwell within. I focus on the human experience—how one can truly perceive the nuanced harmony of a space.” says the designer. For the homeowner, whose workday is often filled with urgency and movement, the act of returning home is an essential pleasure. The moment they are greeted by the rounded, tactile surfaces of the space, a sense of peace and clarity sets in. This emotional response is precisely what HOHO Design strives to evoke in their residential work: a home that soothes and centers. To accentuate this philosophy, the designer introduced two arched portals that instill a quiet sense of ritual. One wide, one narrow, the openings form a playful connection between the entryway and the kitchen. Everywhere the eye travels, soft curves dissolve the hardness of corners, and the irregular flow of surfaces makes each outline feel natural and unforced. The architecture becomes a continuous spatial gesture—one that invites the gaze to wander freely. The curved walls themselves naturally generate subtle gradations of light and shadow. Crafted by hand using a trowel technique, the pigmented plaster produces a textured relief across the surface. Though visually understated, these finishes respond dynamically to shifting daylight, revealing depth, tactility, and warmth as the hours pass.

The concept of “Golden Twilight”—a poetic naming by the designer—takes inspiration from the wall lamp behind the sofa. When illuminated, the fixture casts a golden glow that gently veils the space in amber warmth. With its predominantly light-toned palette, the room becomes enveloped in a hushed radiance, evoking a sense of intimacy and repose. In response to an inner desire for stillness, the designer embraced expansive white space—not merely as a stylistic decision but as a strategy to leave room for life itself to unfold. Yet upon closer inspection, subtle variations emerge: the television wall, built with varying depths, adds visual tension to the otherwise blank surface. A detached half-height wall gently separates the living area from a multipurpose room, creating a sense of openness while maintaining spatial clarity. Though the overall design intentionally minimizes overt stylistic signatures, the hand-applied plaster and curated textures quietly infuse the space with depth and soul. Here, design does not dominate but dissolves into daily life—revealing itself slowly, rhythmically, and always with warmth.
