A Boundless Living Space

The core of the space revolves around public areas, light, and outdoor terraces, with simplicity, rationality, and tranquility being the first impressions upon encountering the space. Designer Abraham Lee reconfigured the original partitions to transform them into a comfortable and leisurely living environment.

Both homeowners are surgeons, and like their routine of preparing for surgery, cleanliness and order are their common pursuits, reflected in their living space as well. The designer has cleverly configured a guest powder room and a clothing and shoe area on either side of the double-entry foyer, using hidden wall panels to meet the couple's lifestyle needs shaped by years in their profession. Upon returning home, they wash their hands, hang their coats in an antibacterial electronic wardrobe, and store their bags and shoes away, shedding all their equipment before entering the home with peace of mind.

Upon entering the public space, one's gaze is immediately drawn to the lush, spacious outdoor terrace, which brings abundant natural light into the interior throughout the seasons. The low steps in front of the terrace create a space akin to the Japanese "engawa," where one can comfortably bask in the sun during clear days or enjoy stargazing and the cool evening air at night. The fully opening folding patio doors integrate the indoor and outdoor spaces, further enhancing the expansive view.

Scattered casually throughout the space, several armchairs can be oriented towards the terrace for relaxing and enjoying the greenery and sunlight; when the hidden projection screen is lowered, the chairs can be turned to enter movie mode. A large modular shelving unit replaces the traditional TV wall, offering a visually sleek and tidy appearance while allowing for functional changes as needed. Reflecting the couple’s organized yet free-spirited nature, every aspect of their living space reveals a unique and liberating order.

All activities, from reading and working to dining with friends and family, take place around the long Vipp dining table, which, combined with the open kitchen bar design, allows for unrestricted communication throughout the space. The gray-black storage flaps and the room's concealed doors complement the kitchen's color scheme and delineate the boundaries of the private areas. The warm sunlight falls on the seamless floor, and the integrated construction technique gives the space a sleek appearance. The natural wood tones, light white mineral paint, and gray-black doors in the home display a variety of textures with different lighting throughout the day, conveying the subtlety of the materials and the warmth of home.

In the master bedroom, the toilet, soaking tub, and shower are each separate, while the open island-style washstand and the overhead storage mirror cabinet set distinct and unique boundaries for the sleeping area. This arrangement not only expands the storage functionality for grooming and care but also resolves the previously cramped movement in the main bathroom, bringing a sense of familiarity for the doctor couple. On the other side of the mirror cabinet, rattan woven materials echo the dressing room's sliding door next to it, cleverly creating overall consistency and adding a touch of Zen. To accommodate the need to be on call, the designer thoughtfully planned a functional room to serve as a sleep and reading area during standby, ready for any medical duties that may arise.

The homeowners, due to their professions, are constantly vigilant and hope that their space at home can relieve the high pressure and gradually absorb all the anxiety from work. By washing off the day's grime and returning to simplicity, their residence has also become a comforting haven where they can relax, enjoy the greenery, and cherish the good life.
